Did you know? Hair affects an estimated 8 million women in the UK.
Stress, hormones, pregnancy and poor nutrition, including vitamin deficiencies, is a major factor of hair loss for women.
Your diet can have a major impact on your hair, here we look at the vitamins, proteins, minerals and superfoods that you can add to your diet to support your hair.
Fish Oil
Make sure you add plenty of Omega-3 rich foods to your diet, such as salmon, mackerel, tuna, white fish, sardines, eggs, walnuts and hemp seeds. If your diet does not regularly include oily fish, invest in a supplement that contains a good quality sourced fish oil to increase your daily Omega-3 intake.
B-complex vitamin
You can get B-vitamins and Biotin from many foods, including whole grains, almonds, eggs, avocado, potatoes, meat, fish, seafood and dark, leafy greens. You can also take one B-complex vitamin tablet daily or take biotin separately.
Iron
It is important that you get your daily recommended levels of iron to prevent iron deficiencies. Add plenty of iron-rich foods to your diet, such as leafy spinach, Swiss chard, collards, egg yolks, beef steak, navy beans and black beans or take a daily multivitamin or iron supplement to support your hair.
Vitamin C
Make sure you are getting plenty of Vitamin C in your diet. Carrots, citrus fruits, strawberries, peppers, guavas, broccoli and kale are all good sources of Vitamin C. If your diet does not regularly include Vitamin C, invest in a supplement that contains Vitamin C.
Vitamin D
An excellent source of Vitamin D is from the action of sunlight on our skin, but you’ll also find it in fish like halibut, salmon and mackerel as well as certain mushrooms. If your vitamin D levels are low, you could consider taking a supplement that contains Vitamin D. In the UK, we have less hours of daylight in the winter and autumn months.
Zinc
Make sure you include a healthy level of Zinc in your diet. Foods high in Zinc include oysters, beef, spinach, wheat germ, pumpkin seeds and lentils.
If you are not getting enough of these vitamins and minerals in your diet, you could also consider boosting your daily intake with a hair growth supplement solution.
